Mackenzie River (Queensland)

BW

The Mackenzie River is a river in eastern Australian state of Queensland. The non- constant water flow is a leading source river of the Fitzroy River. The river name is derived from the Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt.

Name

The Mackenzie River named Leichhardt on his first Australia Expedition 1844-1845 by Sir Evan Mackenzie, a Scot who had emigrated to Brisbane in 1840 and moved there. Mackenzie had hosted a farewell dinner in August 1844 for Leichhardt and the citizens of Brisbane.
