Commerce is an industrial city in Los Angeles County in California with 12,568 inhabitants ( 2000 census ).

Geographical location

In the West, Commerce adjacent to Vernon, in the northwest of Los Angeles, to the north by East Los Angeles, Montebello on the east, on the south by Downey and Bell Gardens, and on the southwest by Maywood. Parts of the southwestern city limits is the Los Angeles River, the Rio Hondo demarcates the city of Downey.

Commerce is located on the Long Beach Freeway Freeway and Santa Ana Freeway. Run by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Metro Los Angeles serving the place as well.

City ​​History

The city was founded in 1960. In the 1970s and 1980s, commerce was in contrast to some of the nearby towns not a victim of de-industrialization, it created many new business parks.

Demography

In the 2000 census, a population of 12,568 inhabitants was determined in 3,284 households and 2,686 families. The population density was therefore 739 per km ². There were 3,377 housing units counted in the city.

The population was, according to Census 44.76 % White, 0.78 % Black or African American out to 1.58% of American Indians, to 1.08% for Asians and 0.08 % of the inhabitants of the Pacific island region and to 46.94 % of members of other ethnic groups; 4.77 % reported two or more ethnicities. With 93.61 % of the bulk of the population was in Spanish or Latin American descent.

Among the 3,284 households 47.3 % had children under the age of 18; 15.5% were single-person households. The average household size was 3.80 persons and the average family size 4.17 persons.

By age groups, the population divided in 2000 as follows: 33.8 % were aged under 18, 11.1 % from 18 to 24, 28.8 % 25-44 years, 16.1% from 45 to 64 years and 10.2% were 65 years or older. The median age was 28 years.

The median household income was $ 34 040; the median family income was $ 36,572. The per capita income was $ 11,117. 15.4 % of families and 17.9 % of the population were below the poverty line.
