Commune III (Niamey)

Niamey III is one of five arrondissements of Niger's capital, Niamey. Niamey III has 175 899 inhabitants ( 2001).

Geography

The sprawling area of the arrondissement on the left bank of the Niger River runs from the city center towards the north-east, where it is bordered by a wide green belt. To the west is bordered Niamey Niamey III to II, to the southeast by Niamey IV and southwest, across the river, to Niamey V.

Niamey III consists of 16 districts, four traditional villages and two administrative villages.

The traditional villages are Faldjame, Banda Goro, Goro Kaina and Sabon Carre, the administrative villages Kongou Gorou and Kongou Gorou Zarmagandey.

History

By 1996, Niamey was in three municipalities (French: communes urbaines ) divided. In Niamey III was understood by then the area now arrondissements Niamey V. 1996 Niamey was divided into five boroughs. The municipality of Niamey III originated from parts of the former municipalities Niamey Niamey I and II, 2010, the municipalities of Niamey were converted into arrondissements.

Economy and infrastructure

In Niamey III is the Grand Marché, the "big market " of Niamey. On Boulevard Mali Béro there is a large district, is manufactured and sold in the arts and crafts. Also significant in Niamey III is the trading of building materials. In the western part of the Arrondissements a high density of educational and health facilities can be observed.
