Commune V (Niamey)

Niamey V is one of five arrondissements of Niger's capital, Niamey. Niamey V has 102,172 inhabitants ( 2001).

Geography

Niamey V comprises the entire situated on the right bank of the River Niger part of the city. History

In 1970, the Kennedy bridge was built over the Niger, which the colonization of the right side of the river has been strengthened. Just one year later state - Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey was opened in Niamey V. 1984 Niamey was divided into five districts, with the area of ​​the right side of the river was the 5th district. 1989, the 5th district of the city municipality Niamey III was converted, which is not to be confused with today's Arrondissement Niamey III. Since 1996, Niamey V bears its present name. 2010, the municipalities Niamey were converted into arrondissements.
