Communist Party of Belgium

The Communist Party of Belgium (Communist Partij van België / Parti Communiste de Belgique), KPB / PCB, existed from 1921 until 1989. Their two most important publication Le Drapeau Rouge and organs were De Roode Vaan, which at times appeared as daily newspapers.

The party was founded at a congress in Anderlecht on 3/4 September 1921 as a merger of the Communist Party under the leadership of Van Overstraeten War and the Belgian Communist Party under the leadership of Joseph Jacquemotte that had emerged from a split-off from the Belgian Labour Party. The newly founded KPB / PCB was a section of the Comintern.

In 1989, the French-and Dutch -speaking sections of the KPB / PCB separated from each other and it created the Communist Partij and the Parti Communiste as completely separate organizations.
