Community of Metros

The Community of Metros (also COMET ) is an international benchmarking system of subways. COMET provides large metro systems, a platform for the exchange. The 14 members of COMET are the Beijing Subway, the U -Bahn Berlin, the Guangzhou Metro, Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway, London Underground, the subway Mexico City, the Madrid Metro, the Moscow Metro, New York City Subway, the Paris Métro, the Metro de Santiago, Shanghai Metro, Metro São Paulo, as well as MRT ( Taipei ). Each of these metros has an annual volume of at least 500 million passengers.

History and Origins

Project between London Underground and the Hamburg elevated railway

During the conference, the UITP (International Association of Public Transport ) in 1982, agreed London Underground and the Hamburg elevated railway, the development of a benchmarking study comparing her two subways, and the preparation of supplementary data for 24 other metro systems.

Use of KPIs

Despite differences in size, composition, structure and administrative procedures, the project was successfully implemented. Key Performance Indicators for this were (KPIs ) developed the basis of which the different systems are comparable.

"Group of Five"

In 1994, a benchmarking consortium was established which connects the Mass Transit Railway (Hong Kong), London Underground, the U -Bahn Berlin, the New York City Subway and the Paris Metro. This allows the U -Bahn network with each other and exchange performance. Later coined for this association, the term Group of Five.

Community of Metros

Later joined in 1996, the metro Mexico City, São Paulo metro and the Tokyo Metro network. With eight members of the network was the Community of Metros ( COMET ).

Foundation of Nova

Building on the success of the COMET Nova Group was formed in 1998. Nova currently consists of 14 small to medium-sized metros.

1999 to today

In 1999, the Moscow Metro COMET joined. The Metro Madrid in 2004 moved from Nova to COMET. The Shanghai metro occurred in 2005. In 2008, the Metro de Santiago and the Beijing Subway followed. As the youngest member of the MRT ( Taipei ) joined in 2010.
