Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos

The Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos ( CPTM ) is a train system established in 1992 in São Paulo. It belongs to the Secretaria de Estado dos Transportes Metropolitanos is owned and operated as a commuter train. There are currently six lines with 93 stations and a total route length of 260.8 kilometers. Currently, there are two further lines are planned. The CPTM therefore complements the existing metro network and the various bus networks.

History

The history of railways in the state of São Paulo to the year 1867 back in the first Bahnverbingung between the cities of Santos, São Paulo and Jundiaí by the railway company of São Paulo Railway ( SPR ) was prepared. This route crossed the Planalto Paulista and then performs the coastal mountains down to the port of Santos. In 1957, the railway companies and rail routes merged into the state railway company Rede Ferroviária Federal ( RFFSA ). The Estrada de Ferro do Norte was completed in 1870, a rail line, the São Paulo joined with the towns in the valley of Vale do Paraíba and now part of linha 11 - Coral is the CPTM. Around 1890, this railway line of the company Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil ( EFCB ) has been allocated and 1926 constructed the EFCB a variant that Poá and was henceforth called today the linha 12 - Safira there is CPTM. All railway lines in the state of São Paulo in 1971 nationalized and merged into the Company ferrovia Paulista SA ( FEPASA ). The FEPASA in turn founded the company FEPASA DRM, which was responsible for the management of Vorortpassierstrecken. In the 70 years the company Empresa Brasileira de Transporte Urbano ( EBTU ) was responsible for this area and went in 1984 in the Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbano ( CBTU ), which was then renamed in 1992 CPTM. The freight lines of FEPASA were from 1996 through speech Ferroviária Federal ( RFFSA ) privatized by the various route sections were auctioned for the concession and later the RFFSA was dissolved. Today, the CPTM of about 1.9 million passengers used regularly. The poor state of the railways led to the State Government to carry out a modernization, which cost between 1995 and 2004 about 1.5 billion U.S. dollars. To make a harmonization of transport of the state, the CPTM 2008 Metrô de São Paulo was assumed.

The numbering of the lines starts at seven because the numbers one through six of the Metrô São Paulo are assigned.
