Computerspielemuseum Berlin

The Computer Game Museum Berlin was founded in 1997. In the years 1997-2000 it had a permanent exhibition in Berlin. After that, it only appeared online. Since 21 January 2011, the museum with a new permanent exhibition in the former Warsaw café in Karl -Marx -Allee is present.

General

The Computer Game Museum opened in Berlin in 1997 the world's first permanent exhibition of digital interactive entertainment culture. Since then, it was responsible for over 30 national and international exhibitions, including funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation project " pong.mythos ," a traveling exhibition of artistic works for the game Pong. In the last five years, over 470,000 people have seen these temporary exhibitions. The museum has (as of 2010 ) over 16,000 original game titles, 10,000 trade magazines, many historic home computer and console systems that have been sold in Europe, and an extensive collection of other documents, such as videos, posters and manuals. It thus has one of the largest collections of entertainment software and hardware in Europe.

The collection of the Computer Game Museum is the property of the Foundation for Youth and Social Work eV, the new museum itself is operated by the Games House gGmbH. The construction of the new permanent exhibition of the German Lottery Foundation Berlin and from the culture of Berlin's cultural investment program management, ie financed by the ERDF.

The Computer Game Museum is a member of the International Council of Museums ( ICOM), the German Museums Association and the Nestor project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Projects

The museum is a cooperation partner of the EU research project PLANETS ( Preservation and Long -term Access through Networked Services). It is also a co-sponsor of the Keeping Emulation Environments Portable EU research project.

Prices

The museum was awarded the German Children's Culture Prize in 2002.
