Concepción, Corrientes

Concepción is the capital of the Concepción departments in the province of Corrientes in northeastern Argentina. The place was originally known by his Guaraní name Yaguarete Corá, which is still in use today. In 1870 the city was given its present name, which in its complete form Inmaculada Concepción de la Virgen Maria. In the classification of municipalities in the province of Corrientes Concepcion belongs to the second category.

Population

The population was 4,800 inhabitants according to the last census ( 2001). According to estimates from 2007, the population has grown to about 7,000.

History

Concepción was founded on September 21, 1796 as part of the settlement by small farmers and independent ranchers. General Manuel Belgrano concentrated his troops here before the Battle of Itapúa.
