Conchillas is a town in the south of Uruguay.

Geography

Conchillas located in the southwest of the department of Colonia in its sector 7, south of the Ruta Nacional No. 21. The place is located on the banks of the Arroyo Conchillas about seven kilometers away from that of the Río de la Plata. The distance to the capital of the department of Colonia del Sacramento to the southeast is about 50 km. Until the north western city of Carmelo is 40 km away.

History

Conchillas was founded in 1887 by the British company Walker & Co as a settlement for his workers.

Conchillas has the Liceo Rural de Conchillas founded in 1990 on a secondary school ( Liceo ).

Traffic

There is a connecting link to the north a few kilometers away running Ruta 21

Population

The population of Conchillas is 401 (as of 2011), of which 196 male and 205 female.
