Conjunto Chappottin

Conjunto Chappottín is a Cuban Sonband from Havana to the trumpeter, arranger and bandleader Jesús Ángel Chappottín Coto and percussionist and singer Miguel Cuní jr. , The band is dedicated to the traditional son and is considered one of the more iconic groups of Cuba.

History

The foundation of the band goes back far into the 1940s. Arsenio Rodriguez, the founder of the original formation, also known as " El Ciego Maravilloso " ( " the fantastic blind " ), left Cuba in 1949 to undergo in New York eye surgery and handed over the reins of the formation at Félix Chappottín, the first trumpeter of the then " Gran Conjunto " as the band was originally called. Under the new leadership the formation took the name " Félix y su Conjunto Chappottín todos estrellas" to. Félix Chappottín led the group very successfully until his death in 1983. Between 1983 and the 1990s, the group was led by his son Angel Chappottín Valdes, after his death, the leadership was passed on to his son, Jesus Angel Chappottín Coto, the band -to-date together with the percussionist and singer Miguel Cuni Jr., son of former lead singer of the formation, is derived.

Name

The formation changed name with the progress of the founder and first musical director Arsenio Rodríguez and was named to 1983 according to the new head " Felix y su Conjunto Chappottín todos estrellas". The current name " Conjunto Chappottín y sus estrellas" is characteristic of the three-generation -long musical tradition of the formation with the grandson of Felix Chappottín as the new musical director.
