Conjux

Conjux is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Conjux is located on 258 m above sea level. M., about 26 km north- northwest of the town of Chambery (air line). The village is located in the extreme northwest of the department of Savoie, just above the west bank of the Lac du Bourget, at the foot of the heights of Mont Landard.

The area of ​​1.70 km ² municipal area includes a section on the western shore of the Lac du Bourget. The municipality has a 3 km long lake shore line which extends from the south outflow of the Canal de Savière to the vicinity of the farmhouse Saint- Gilles. From the shores of the lake community area extends westward across a narrow riparian strips and the steep slope of Conjux up on the adjoining heights of the Mont Landard. Here is 443 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Conjux.

To Conjux addition to the actual center also includes several hamlets settlements and farmsteads, including:

History

The territory of Conjux was inhabited very early. By the lake remains of a settlement from the Bronze Age have been discovered. In Portout was during the Roman period a settlement, which was the subject of extensive excavations in the 1970s and 80s. The first mention of Conjux was in the 12th century under the name Conziacum. Later, the names Congiacum ( 1481 ), Conjeu (1723 ) and Congieux ( 1729 ) published. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman family names congius.

Attractions

The village church of Conjux was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style and has a wooden statue of the Madonna and Child from the 14th century. The Chapel of Saint- Crépin- et- Crépinien dates from the 15th century. Some typical old fishermen's houses along the lake are preserved.

Population

With 187 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Conjux is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Savoie. After the population was declining in the first half of the 20th century, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Conjux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and fishing village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in the area of Aix -les- Bains and Chambery, their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Lucey after Chindrieux. Further road links exist with Saint- Pierre -de- Curtille and the Abbaye de Hautecombe. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 23 km.
