Conrad II of Salzwedel

Conrad II of Salzwedel († September 20, 1241 ) was a Roman Catholic priest. He led in the first half of the 13th century as a bishop Konrad III. of Pomerania, the Pomeranian diocese.

Life

Conrad II of Salzwedel was the son of the noble bailiff Frederick II of Salzwedel. 1211 he was a canon in Magdeburg. In October 1233 Bishop Konrad II of Pomerania died, he was at the instigation of his brother Jaczo of Salzwedel, the gentlemen to Gützkow, as Conrad III. elected as the new Bishop and confirmed at the end of the Pope. His appointment he owed the rise of Brandenburg influence in Pomerania.

In the early years of his tenure, there was a border dispute between Pomerania and Mecklenburg to the zirzipanische area, which resulted in the Diocese of Schwerin tried to extract the territories to Gützkow and Wolgast from the Camminer Sprengel.
