Consort of instruments

As is known in the Renaissance Consort Music, an ensemble of musical instruments. Consort music during the Renaissance was usually not recorded instrument-specific, so it was left to the performers, the instruments concrete were used.

This practice benefited that almost all instruments were built in complete so-called " families " from soprano to bass in the Renaissance. The most important families of instruments for the Consort game were the recorder and the viola da gamba, one speaks therefore of the recorder consort, or viol consort. It was accepted readily to use instruments from different families.
