Constance of Babenberg

Constantia ( Konstanze ) (* May 6, 1212, † before June 5, 1243 ) was the daughter of Leopold VI. of Austria.

It was with Henry the Illustrious (~ 1215-1288 ), Margrave of Meissen, married on 1 May 1234. The wedding took place at Vienna and not in the old Hofburg. It is believed that the conversion of the Hofburg not yet completed or it was too small. About the wedding itself be three sources of information. Two of them report that the wedding in campo inuxta Stadelowe, so Stadlau, had taken place. The third source reported the wedding in aput ring lens, which has strayed and was used instead of the current Floridsdorf. The two sources that indicate Stadlau, also report that attending the wedding guests. Present were the kings of Hungary and Bohemia, the Archbishop of Salzburg, the bishops of Passau, Bamberg, Freising and Seckau. From the secular nobility even the Margrave of Moravia, the dukes of Saxony and Carinthia and the Landgrave of Thuringia were present. The list of guests suggests the importance of the Babenberg duke.

Her sons were with Henry Albert the Degenerate (1240-1314) and Dietrich von Landsberg ( 1242-1285 ). She died in 1243.

In 1910 ( 22nd District ) was named after her in the Konstanziagasse Vienna Danube city.
