Constantin von Ettingshausen

Constantin Freiherr von Ettingshausen ( born June 16, 1826 in Vienna, † February 1, 1897 in Graz) was palaeobotanist at the University of Graz. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Ettingsh. ".

Life and work

Ettingshausen was the son of the physicist Andreas von Ettingshausen and his son Albert von Ettingshausen was also a physicist.

Ettingshausen studied medicine at the University of Vienna, where he received his doctorate in 1848. He then worked as a traveler on behalf of the Imperial Geological Institute. In 1871 he became professor of botany at the University of Graz, where he was rector in 1881. Ettingshausen illustrated his numerous publications with natural self- Print and reached highest perfection in this art. His estate is located in the University Library of Graz.
