Continental Micronesia

Continental Micronesia was an American airline based in Guam and based on the Antonio B. Won Pat airport was a subsidiary of Continental Airlines, under which license also the last flight operation was performed.

History

On 16 May 1968 it was founded by Continental Airlines and the former U.S. Trust Territory, the subsidiary Air Micronesia in order to strengthen the presence of Continental Airlines in the Pacific and Asia. This subsidiary was known as AIR MIKE, where also the former international radio call sign of the originating airline. In the 1990s, developed on Guam is an important aviation hub, both for Continental Micronesia and for United Airlines and Northwest Airlines. During this time, AIR MIKE got the official name Continental Air Micronesia, which was later changed to Continental Micronesia.

Together with the parent company moved Continental Micronesia October 27, 2009 by SkyTeam airline alliance Star Alliance.

As part of the merger of Continental Airlines United Airlines has lifted the Air Operator Certificate of Continental Micronesia in the fall of 2010. Since then, the flying operation was formally carried out by Continental Airlines. This approach should simplify the planned next step merger with United under one AOC. Since the final merger of United and Continental Micronesia, the Division is no longer used, the flights will be operated by United with aircraft from its fleet.

Objectives

From the Antonio B. Won Pat airport Continental Micronesia operated mainly the Pacific, Japanese and Southeast Asian region, and thus serves as a supplement for Continental Airlines to bring these regions into the focus of American tourists. It operated from Guam from mainly to Japan (8 goals, including to Tokyo, Sapporo and Fukuoka ), Micronesia (7 goals, eg to Koror, Yap, Chuuk and Majuro ), Australia ( Cairns ), Southeast Asia ( 2 goals, Manila and Denpasar ) to Hong Kong and Taipei, and to Hawaii, which is the most important goal of society.

Other objects, such as Noumea, Seoul, Sydney, Cebu and Port Moresby have been deleted due to low utilization.

Fleet

As of September 2011, the fleet of Continental Micronesia consisted of 15 aircraft:

  • 2 Boeing 737-700 ( operated by Continental Airlines)
  • 9 Boeing 737-800 ( operated by Continental Airlines)
  • 4 Boeing 767 - 400ER ( operated by Continental Airlines)

The machines contributed partly already the writing of the new, merged United Airlines.

Incidents

Continental Micronesia recorded in its history an aircraft loss:

  • On November 21, 1980 accident flight CS614 the former Continental Air Micronesia from Guam coming upon landing in Yap. All people on board survived the accident, but the machine was badly damaged and subsequently retired.
