Coral Browne

Coral Browne ( born July 23, 1913 in Melbourne, † 29 May 1991, Los Angeles ) was an Australian- American stage and film actress.

Life and work

Already with 18 years of Coral Browne had her first appearance on an Australian theater stage, then went to London at age 23 to initially pursue a career as a stage actress in both classical and modern roles. They played at the London houses ( Savoy Theatre, Old Vic, beach Theatre, Theatre Royal Haymarket, Piccadilly Theatre ) and in Blackpool, Bristol, Brighton, Oxford and Birmingham. Among other things, she was seen in the great English dramas of Shakespeare such as Macbeth, King Lear and Othello.

Her first screen appearance was Browne 1935 in Charing Cross Road. There followed over the next 54 years a total of 29 more movies of all genres as well as numerous television appearances. Memorable were especially her performances in Robert Aldrich movies The Killing of Sister George as Mercy Croft, the evil rival of the heroine, and even cutting in Big Lie Lylah Clare as physically impaired film critic Molly Luther.

During the filming of the horror comedy theater of horror ( Theatre of Blood, GB 1973) she met American actor Vincent Price to know who lived in these years, especially in London, and whom she married on October 24, 1974. Your previous husband, Philip Pearman was ten years earlier died after 14 years of marriage with cancer. The couple Browne -Price was henceforth regarded as one of "the " great loves in the theater world. During this filming Browne was already seriously ill with cancer.
