Corcovado (song)
Corcovado is a bossa nova song of the Brazilian Antônio Carlos Jobim from 1960, which refers to the same mountain in Rio de Janeiro. It has been interpreted, among others, Elis Regina and Sergio Mendes. Into English the song called Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars was translated. The English lyrics were written by Gene Lees.
The song has become a jazz standard. In 1962 Miles Davis has recorded on his album Quiet Nights, a version of the piece with the Gil Evans Orchestra. The best-known version is by Stan Getz, who in 1964 took up with Astrud and João Gilberto for the album Getz / Gilberto. Astrud Gilberto sings as The Girl from Ipanema, the first sentences in English. Her husband sets the text continues in Portuguese and Getz plays a solo.
