The Corcovado

The Corcovado ( German: the hunchback ) is a mountain in Rio de Janeiro, on which the symbol of the city, the 38 m high (including base) Christ the Redeemer stands. The Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca National Park is 710 meters high and offers a view over Rio de Janeiro and Guanabara Bay.

A serpentine road and a cog railway, the Corcovado mountain railway, lead to near the summit of Corcovado. Antonio Carlos Jobim Corcovado has dedicated an eponymous song.

Since 2003, in addition to the staircase with 220 steps and panoramic elevators and escalators to reach the viewing platform at the 1931 inaugurated statue.
