Getz / Gilberto is a 1964 released album by Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto with Antonio Carlos Jobim on piano.

The album

On the plate Stan Getz plays had already interpreted on the album " Jazz Samba" bossa nova pieces, with two founders of this style, the singer and guitarist João Gilberto and pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim, who penned originate most compositions. It was one of the best-selling albums of all time. The singer Astrud Gilberto, who sang at the plays The Girl from Ipanema and Corcovado, thereby became world famous. Interestingly, producer Creed Taylor did lie make the images for unknown reasons about a year before he released the album.

Reception

The album's success marked a high point of the bossa nova wave in the U.S.; the style was very popular just by Getz / Gilberto in Europe and the rest of the world. The LP won both the 1965 Grammy Award for "Best Album of the Year " for the "Best Jazz Instrumental Album " and the Grammy Award for " Best Technical Recording" ( sound engineer: Phil Ramone ). The single version of "The Girl from Ipanema " won the Grammy Award for " Single of the Year ".

The recordings took place on 18 and 19 March 1963.

The pieces 9 and 10 are the single versions, which were not included on the LP and were not published until 1997, published on the CD as bonus material. The CD will take Tommy Williams on as bassist. Other sources mention Sebastião Neto (see sources). Also is on the CD Dori Caymmi, Dorival Caymmi 's son, known as a composer of Doralice. True Dorival Caymmi, however.
