Milton Banana

Milton Banana ( born April 23, 1935 in Rio de Janeiro, † 22 May 1999 ) was a Brazilian percussionist and one of the leading drummer of Bossa Nova.

Life and work

Banana began his career in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s. He accompanied several musicians and in 1959 he played on the first recording of Chega de Saudade by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, which is considered one of the first bossa novas. This was followed by recordings with João Gilberto and Stan Getz to the album Getz / Gilberto in 1963 and Baden Powell ( Tristeza on Guitar ) for MPS 1966., He founded and directed the Milton Banana Trio, which released over 20 albums.
