Corky Laing

Laurence Gordon " Corky " Laing ( born January 26, 1948) is a Canadian rock drummer, best known as a member of the American hard rock band Mountain.

Biography

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Laing was the youngest of five siblings. He has an older sister Carol, followed by 3 boys: Jeffrey, Leslie and Stephen and finally Corky. Corky's brothers always called him " Gorky " because they could not tell Gordon. Perhaps this was the origin of his nickname.

After he started playing drums in 1961, he was drumming for the legendary vocal group The Ink Spots. Later he played with the band Energy, which was moved over former Cream producer Felix Pappalardi. 1969 left Corky Energy to N.D. Smart to replace the precursor of Mountain. They released 3 albums in 2 years - one with the classic Mississippi Queen.

After the separation in 1971 Mountain Member Leslie West and Jack Bruce Laing brought to him, and they formed a power trio (West, Bruce and Laing ). They produced two studio albums and a live album shortly before the reunification of Mountain. Mountain published in 1974 Avalanche and the live album Twin Peaks. Laing has continued with Mountain to this day, and in 2007 the Bob Dylan cover album Masters of war brought out.

In 2003, Laing and Leslie West Nantucket Sleighride and Other Mountain on-the -road stories written, a chronicle of the time with Mountain to its heyday and her career in the following years. Laing, started in 2007 with Cory Bruyea in Oakville, Ontario " Stick It! " Set to music version of his memoirs.
