Cornelia Funke

Cornelia Funke ( born December 10, 1958 in Dorsten, North Rhine -Westphalia ) is a German children 's and teen book author whose novels are fantastic international success and has been translated with a total circulation of 20 million books in 37 languages.

Biography

After completing her secondary education at the Gymnasium of St. Ursula in Dorsten Cornelia Funke moved to Hamburg and trained as a graduate teacher. For three years she worked as a governess on a Bauspielplatz and studied in parallel, book illustration at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Hamburg. Through her work as an illustrator of children's books she herself came to writing. Incidentally Cornelia Funke worked on scripts for the TV series Seven stone.

His international breakthrough came in 2002, when her already in 2000 published in Germany in Dressler Verlag book appeared Thief Lord by Scholastic in the U.S. and stood there for many months on the U.S. bestseller lists. The discovery of this book for the English speaking world leads spark to "Clara" back, a bilingual grown up girl with the publisher of Harry Potter, Barry Cunningham, also complained that she could not share with their friends at school in England, her favorite book.
