Cornelis van Eesteren

Cornelis van Eesteren ( born July 4, 1897 in Alblasserdam, † February 21, 1988 in Amsterdam), also known as Cor or Cornelius, was a Dutch architect and urban planner.

Life

He was from 1922/1923 member of the artist group De Stijl. His idea of the functional city he sat from 1929 to 1960 as an urban planner from Amsterdam to, among other things, in the planning of the settlement Jeruzalem. Van Eesteren played a leading role in the constitution of the Charter of Athens. From 1930 to 1947 he was chairman of the Congrès International d' Architecture Moderne.
