Cornish Rex

Cornish Rex is a domestic cat breed. Your most prominent feature is the curled fur. The first cat of this breed appeared early 50's on in Cornwall.

History

The first Rex cat appeared beginning of the 1950s in Cornwall, in the midst of a litter of cats Bauer was it located. They wanted more of these curly cat breed, so we crossed the male with his mother, after which allegedly arose even more Rex Cats. The name Cornish Rex comes from Cornwall. A few years later it was discovered in Devonshire another cat with moleskin ( = Devon Rex ). It then crossed copies of both races, but the desired result was missing. " Rex" is surprisingly a term of rabbit breeding and describes the mole -like fur of the animals.

Appearance

Race -forming feature is curly or wavy coat, which is called " moleskin ", precisely because the hair is reminiscent of that of a mole. The hair is short and close fitting, with the guard hairs are sparse and only vaguely different from the wool hair. The Leithaar absent. Whiskers and eyebrows are crimped. Of all known Rexkatzenrassen the Cornish Rex is most affected by changes of the hair.

The Cornish Rex is a slender cat on long straight legs. Long and lean is the tail. The head is wedge-shaped with a long nose, the ears are large and high, they act like a bat. The eyes are medium in size and oval. In its general appearance it resembles the Oriental Shorthair.

The genetic defect that causes the breed typical hair change, is the same that the German Rex cat wearing. It is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait.
