Coronado is a city in San Diego County in the U.S. state of California. It has 24,100 inhabitants (as of 2000). The metropolitan area has a size of 84.6 km ². The urban area of ​​Coronado is bounded on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the east by the San Diego Bay.

Coronado lies on a peninsula on the Coronado Bridge, opened in 1969 with the California State Route 75 to reach.

Attractions

Noteworthy is the Hotel del Coronado, built in 1888 ⊙ 32.680321-117.178248. Besides the fact that a large number of famous people stayed in the hotel, it was the film location for the 1958 film shot Some Like It Hot (English Some like it hot ) with Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in the lead roles.

The central part of the island is home to the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, in which is among other things one of two headquarters of the United States Navy SEALs, and is therefore not accessible to the public. The district has a bird's-eye look at the shape of a swastika.
