Corpus Reformatorum

Corpus Reformatorum (Corp. Ref, Cor. Ref, CR, CR) (German Collection of the Reformers, Halle ( Saale), 1834 et seq ), the series title of an important collection of writings of Protestant reformers of the 16th century. The series with a total of 101 volumes containing reprints of the collected works of John Calvin, Philipp Melanchthon and Ulrich Zwingli, three of the leading Protestant reformers. The texts of the CR were printed in Latin, French or German.

A collection of Catholic writings of the 16th century, intended as a counterpart to the CR, ( 1868-1919 ) was initiated by the University of Bonn by Professor Joseph Greving. The project was presented in 1915 in the journal Theological Review as plan a Corpus Catholicorum.

History

The corpus Reformatorum project was - based on the initiative of the German scientist and theologian Karl Gottlieb Bretschneider - since shortly after 1827 in planning. From 1834 until his death in 1848 Bretschneider was also the chief editor.
