Corrymeela Community

The Corrymeela Community ( ir "Hill of Harmony" ) is a peace initiative in Ballycastle, Antrim, Northern Ireland which was founded in 1965 by Reverend Ray Davey.

History

Corrymeela Community is a community of people of all ages and Christian traditions that have come together to working together for the healing of social, religious and political divisions in Northern Ireland and around the world.

The central concern of the Corrymeela Community is to enable an acquaintance: to spend the Roman Catholic and Protestant people ( for example, schools, community groups, ... ) are invited to a few days together in the Corrymeela Centre in Ballycastle, a town on the north coast of Northern Ireland. Corrymeela Centre offers a safe place where people can take refuge.

Today the chaired by David Stevens Corrymeela Community 230 members around the world. It maintains an office in Belfast, the Corrymeela Centre ( meeting house ) in Ballycastle and a Retreatcentre in Knocklayd. Known members include the founding members Ray Davey and Rev. Dr. John Morrow. Other well-known communities are the Communauté de Grandchamp ( Switzerland ), Iona Community (Scotland) and Taizé (France).

  • Ray Davey ( born 1915 ) received the honorary doctorate of dignity among others 2002 by the Catholic St.Patric 's College Maynooth near Dublin and in 2004 by the Protestant Union College, Belfast.
