Corticeira Amorim

The Corticeira Amorim is a Portuguese company and part of the Amorim Investimentos e Participações, SGPS, SA, the holding company Amorim group. Another sub-holding is Amorim Global Investors. It plays an increasingly important role with its investments in the international market, especially in the energy sector with Amorim Energia BV.

Since March 2001, Antonio Rios de Amorim is the CEO. He took over the company from his uncle Américo Amorim. The company has its headquarters in Mozelos and is a world leader in the production of wine corks. Other key priorities are the areas of industrial engineering applications, especially in Europe and the United States. Four sub-areas form the backbone of the company: building and construction, General Industry, Shoe Industry and cork industry. C.A.I. is traded in Euros Next Lisbon.

History

The start of operations was 1870 as António Alves de Amorim in Vila Nova de Gaia opened a factory to produce wine corks by hand. In the year 1922, Amorim & Irmãos, Lda. founded. It was the basis of the current group. As Corticeira Amorim (German Amorim Cork ) started in 1963 ( including by Américo Amorim founded ), the company with the production of cork and agglomerated cork, which is obtained from residues of Korkstopfenindustrie.
