The first known today bearer of the name was Georg Adam Kastner, who with his family from Edenkoben in the Palatinate, York County, Pennsylvania in the area of present-day Gaston County (then Mecklenburg County) emigrated 1748 in North Carolina and on his grave stone " G. ADAM COSTNER DIED 1767 " is to be read.
