Cotter Smith

Joseph Cotter Smith ( * May 29, 1949 in Washington, DC ) is an American actor.

Life

Joseph Cotter Smith is the son of Madeline Cotter and John Lewis Smith, Jr., a former federal judge. In 1972, he received his bachelor's degree in literature at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. From 1978, he studied with Stella Adler at The Actors Studio in New York City. He then played several years of theater before he had in 1983 with the directed by Mike Newell television drama tracked his first major role until death with his portrayal of Robert F. Kennedy on the side of Danny Aiello and Ernest Borgnine in a feature film.

Smith is married for the third time. From 1972 to 1980 he was married to Christina Egloff. Together with actress Mel Harris, with whom he has a daughter, he was married from 1988 to 1996. Since March 31, 2001, he is married to Heidi Mueller.
