The Cottonwood River is a left tributary of the Dease River in the Stikine region in the north of the Canadian province of British Columbia.

The Cottonwood River rises in the northern Stikine Ranges. It flows initially in a predominantly southerly direction along the eastern flank of the Tuya Range, used in the lower reaches to the east and flows between the north end of Dease Lake and McDame Creek on the left into the Dease River. The British Columbia Highway 37 ( Stewart - Cassiar Highway) crosses the river below the mouth of Bass Creek and then runs the last 10 km upstream of the mouth of the Cottonwood River in the Dease River south of the river. The river has a length of about 80 km. It drains an area of ​​about 900 km ² and has a mean discharge of 18 m³ / s.

The English term cottonwood referred several North American poplar species.
