Couches

Couches is a commune with 1477 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire, in Burgundy; it belongs to the district of the canton of Autun and couches. The municipality is situated approximately 30 km west-northwest of Chalon -sur -Saône, 25 km from Autun and 15 kilometers from Le Creusot.

Built in the 11th century castle couches is also called " Château de Marguerite de Bourgogne ," for allegedly supposed to Margaret of Burgundy, Queen of France and wife of Louis X., violated after her adultery have retired to couches to there in all seclusion to spend their last days. This local legend is false, since Margaret of Burgundy was strangled in 1315 in Château -Gaillard.
