The Cougar Energy Limited was formerly known as Pinnacle VRB Limited is an Australian energy company, which specializes in underground coal gasification and the production of electrical energy, with the resulting synthesis gas.

Activities

The Group is active not only in Australia, but plans further coal gasification projects and has offices in the UK ( Cougar Energy Ltd. (UK )) (. Cougar Energy UCG Pty Ltd ), India, Pakistan ( Cougar Energy Pakistan), China ( Cougar Direct Invest China Limited) and projects in Mongolia.

Cougar Energy shares with the Ergo Exergy Technologies a license for use of underground coal gasification, the company Ergo Exergy developed. The most important coal gasification project is carried out by the Cougar Energy at Kingaroy in Queensland. The first synthesis gas, the Kingaroy pilot plant was produced on 16 March 2010. For commercial usage Cougar Energy is planning a system that is able to generate 400 megawatts. Other projects of coal gasification of the Group in Wandoan, in Suratbecken in Queensland and in the Latrobe Valley in Victoria and in the Thar Coal Field in Pakistan in planning. Cougar Energy has signed a memorandum that. , In cooperation with the Essar Oil from India and the Qi De Investment Co. Ltd. will build in Inner Mongolia with China coal gasification plants.

Problems

On 16 July 2010, the Kingaroy pilot plant had to be temporarily shut down, because after drilling in groundwater benzene and toluene were discovered. However, the proportion of hydrocarbons in the water was 95 % lower than the limit for the Australian drinking water.
