Craugastor tabasarae

Craugastor tabasarae ( Syn: Eleutherodactylus tabasarae ) is a species of frog in Panama -based only, which can be found in premontane forests at altitudes of 600-910 m. It is threatened by the spread of the chytrid fungus, as well as by habitat loss. Characteristics of the holotype and paratypes

The body length of adult males is 29 to 33.7 mm, that of the adult females from 48.5 to 54.2 mm. The vital staining of the top is cocoa brown, the grainy textured, studded with many tubercles and / or short strip back shows medium brown, yellow spots interspersed with red speckles and green areas. The groin is golden yellow to orange with dark brown spots. Chin, breast and belly are grainy textured cream yellow, the ventral side of the limb bright yellow with brown spots. The fingers and toes comprise basal webs, the discs of the toes are smaller than the discs of the fingers.

The round with the males, egg-shaped in females the tympanum is colored individually strong. The top of the head is also grained, rounded snout towards the back and pointed in profile. The upper part of the iris is silvery brown, the lower half dark brown to black.

Distribution and habitat

Craugastor tabasarae is in the tropical, premontane rainforest areas of the Serranía de Tabasara mountain range above El Cope in the province of Veraguas in the National Park Omar Torrijos at altitudes of 600-800 m in the mountains of central East to the Cerro Bruja summit in the province of Colón in to find heights of 730-800 m and in the Serranía Piedras Pacora in the Chagres National Park in the province of Panama at altitudes around 910 m.

Systematics and Taxonomy

At present the first description of Craugastor tabasarae was the classification of " Südfrösche " ( Leptodactylidae in the broad sense ) in transition. The newly discovered frog was first placed in the genus Eleutherodactylus and thus into the Eleutherodactylidae family. Craugastor was considered a subgenus of the genus Eleutherodactylus very rich in species for the Central American species. In 2008, the family Craugastoridae was erected.
