Creigh Deeds

Robert Creigh Deeds ( born January 4, 1958 in Richmond, Virginia ) is an American politician (Democratic Party). Since 2001 he is a Senator in the Senate of Virginia, representing the 25th district there.

Life

Deeds attended Concord College and received in 1980 a Bachelor of Arts (BA). In 1984, he received his JD from the Law School of Wake Forest University. Deeds was now working as a lawyer in Virginia. In 1987 he was elected to the Bath County prosecutor ( Commonwealth 's Attorney ). In addition, since 2007 he has lawyer in the Framme Law Firm in Richmond, Virginia and teaches since 2010 as a Visiting Professor of Law at Washington and Lee University.

In 1991 he was first elected to the House of Representatives of Virginia. In the next five elections, he was able to defend his position, respectively, so that he belonged to the house of Parliament from 1992 to 2001. He was elected in a by-election to the Senate of Virginia in 2001 and retired from the House of Representatives from. The by-election was necessary to reoccupy the vacant seat of Senator Emily Couric. 2003, 2007 and 2011 was his re-election.

In 2005 he was the Democratic candidate for the office of the Attorney General of Virginia, losing to the Republican Judith hunting man. In November 2009 he became a Democratic candidate for governor in the election, but lost again to his Republican rivals. Bob McDonnell received almost 60 percent of the votes and could thus clearly prevail over Deeds.

Deeds is married. The senator was seriously injured on 19 November 2013 his suffering from bipolar disorder son with a knife. The son took after his murder with a firearm life. Only days earlier, Deeds had been trying to obtain for his son a stay in a psychiatric facility, which was refused from lack of space.
