Cribraria

Cribraria aurantiaca

Cribraria is a genus of slime molds from the group of Myxogastria. It includes about 30 species, some of which are extremely difficult to distinguish.

Features

The fruiting bodies are usually pedunculated, usually round to pear- shaped, rarely ellipsoid or ovoid sporangia vice versa, only in the case of Cribraria argillacea they are sessile and aethalienartig.

The peridium is reduced to a fine net-like structure that can be more or less clearly separated into nodes and connecting threads, usually a Calyculus is present, which can be reduced but also radiating from the approach of extending ribs. On the reduced peridia and usually also on the spores are found dictydine granules.

Dissemination

The genus is distributed worldwide, about two-thirds of the species are, however neotropisch. Many of its species are often found in the areas of distribution.

Systematics and history of research

The genus was first described in 1794 by Christiaan Hendrik Persoon, type species is Cribraria rufescens.

The genus includes at least 30 species, including:

  • Cribraria rufescens
  • Cribraria aurantiaca
  • Cribraria purpurea
  • Cribraria violacea
  • Cribraria argillacea
