The Crimean Mountains (Ukrainian Кримські Гори / Krymski Hory; Russian Крымские Горы / Krymskije Gory ) is a mountain range on the Crimean peninsula, which extends along the south -east coast of the Black Sea over a length of about 150 km. To the southeast of the mountain drops steeply towards the Black Sea, to the north- west it goes slowly into a steppe landscape.

Another name for the mountain is also Tauride Mountains, from which the surname derives Taurian peninsula of Crimea. Accordingly, the University of Yalta is called " Taurian (or Taurinische ) University ".

Its maximum height is reached the Crimean Mountains in 1545 m altitude in the summit of the Roman Kosh (Russian / Ukrainian Роман Кош ). Other significant elevations over 1,200 meters above sea level are:

  • Tschatirdag (Russian Чатырдаг; Ukrainian Чатир - Даг ) 1527 m
  • Lapata (Russian / Ukrainian Лапата ) 1406 m
  • Demerdzhi Yaila (Russian / Ukrainian Демерджи Яйла ) 1356 m
  • Karabiners Yaila (Russian / Ukrainian Караби Яйла ) 1253 m
  • Ai- Petri (Russian / Ukrainian Ай Петри ) 1243 m

The main passes over the Crimean Mountains are:

  • Kujbyschewe (Russian / Ukrainian Куйбышеве, between Yalta and Simferopol )
  • Perewalne (Russian / Ukrainian Перевальне between Alushta and Simferopol )
  • Pass between Priwithe and Bilohirsk
  • Pass between Sudak and Hrusiwka

Through the Crimean Mountains also leads the longest trolley bus in the world. It is operated by the Company Krymskyj trolejbus and runs between Yalta, Alushta and Simferopol. Its highest point it reaches the Anharskyi Pass, and from there to give beautiful views of the sea.
