Crip Walk

The Crip Walk, also known as C-Walk, is an American dance style. The Crip Walk arises from the transition of life of the 80's in Los Angeles and was only at the end of the 90 media- compatible. He began as a symbolic ritual dance, through which the members of different gangs communicating with each other and developed until the late 1990s to a well-established dance style of the U.S. hip-hop.

History

It was developed Crip Walk from a gesture of members of the Crips, one of the two main gangs of African-American youth gangs in Los Angeles. This " written " with their feet letters, usually their name, or typical concepts of transitional scene. The name of the opposing gang, the Bloods, was represented in this way and crossed it. Popular steps were first by rapper WC, who demonstrated on the stage in front of cameras the Crip Walk. Snoop Dogg also dancing in the video for his single Drop It like It's Hot in this step sequences. Rapper with speed connections would say that the C-Walk is not a dance, but a way of showing the attachment to the respective Crip gang. The Blood course or Bloods, however, have developed a visually virtually identical gear / dance, which is accordingly called "Blood Walk". Thus, the C-Walk is not limited to the Crips, and also popular rap artists with Blood - origin or connections, such as Mack 10 of Westside Connection, the member of the Queen Street Bloods in LA, or Kurupt, the compounds both to Bloods and Crips maintains, dance the Crip-/Blood-Walk or put it in her videos and performances on display. Examples include tour appearances from Westside Connection or Kurupts videos for songs such as Who ride with us and C-Walk.

C-Walk Styles

Divided coarse there are four C-Walk - styles:

  • Originally practiced Cripwalk is as Cripwalk OG (OG stands for Original Gangsta ) or short OG called which is mainly due to chilled out music and the vast execution of the basic step, the V -Step, features.
  • The OS Cripwalk (OS stands for Old School ) or short- OS is a modification of the OG. This style contains mostly " hops " ( the steps are " bound " ) as the music is usually faster than the OG.
  • The modern version of Cripwalk, called the Club version, is the Clown Walk, were added in the other dance steps. The Clown Walk formed the basis of currently known clownings, said Clowning rather represents a way of life and has nothing to do with the original OG- Walk. While Clowning has several corners in the base Cripwalk, but it distances itself from the "gang formation and movement ". It can thus be regarded as a positive counterpart to the negative transition of life. The term Clowning is also used in the C-Walk scene as shorthand for the Clown Walk, but which can not be compared with the Clowning yourself, as often only the legs come in Clown Walk expression.
  • The latest variant of the C- Walk is the Crowning, which also Laid Back Clowning is called ( to German as " Relaxed Clowning "). This is a blend of the new and old Clowning Crip Walk. However, the music is based on the speed on the OS, the steps on the Clown Walk.

The different styles have emerged later from the original Cripwalk and have been (even retrospectively ) influenced each other.
