Cristina Garmendia

Cristina Garmendia Mendizábal ( born February 21, 1962 in San Sebastián) is a Spanish biologist, manager and politician. From 2008 until December 2011 she was Spanish Minister of Science and Innovation.

In 1989, she received her doctorate at the University of Madrid with a dissertation in the field of microbiology. At the University of Navarra in 1992 made ​​her a master's degree in business administration. 2001-2008 she was Chair of the company's overarching Research Institute and Genetrix 2005-2008 of the biotechnology industry association ASEBIO. In Genetrix she worked for therapies based on adult stem cells. In 2008 she was Spanish Minister of Science and Innovation. 2013 she was chairman of the Sygnis AG.
