Crocus chrysanthus ' Zwanenburg Bronze'

The little crocus (Crocus chrysanthus ), also called Balkan crocus, a plant is of the genus Crocus (Crocus ).

Features

The little crocus is a perennial tuber Geophyt reached, the plant height 4-10 inches. The Knoll sheath is membranous. At the base it is split up into rings, which may be serrated or entire. The Perigonzipfel measure 15-35 × 5-11 mm and are acute to obtuse. They are pale yellow to orange-yellow, more rarely creamy white. Sometimes its exterior is purple or bronze striped or crowded.

The flowering period is in March, they rarely lasts from February to April.

Occurrence

The little crocus occurs in the Balkans in south-eastern Romania as well as in the South, Central and North West Turkey. The species grows on short grass, dry slopes, in open coniferous forests and in thickets at altitudes from 0 to 2200 meters.

Use

The Little Crocus has been about since 1841 crop. He is scattered used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens and discounts as cultivars and hybrids with Crocus aerius and subspecies of Crocus biflorus in different colors.
