Cryptic Studios

Cryptic Studios is a US-based company that develops Massive (ly ) Multiplayer Online Role- Playing Games. The company was founded in June 2000, is headquartered in Los Gatos California. On 28 April 2004, NCsoft released the first game of the company under the name City of Heroes and on 31 October 2005 the successor City of Villains. City of Villains is both a stand-alone game as well as an extension of City of Heroes.

On 9 December 2008 Atari announced that they will take over Cryptic Studios for $ 28 million dollars plus performance-related bonuses of up to 20 million U.S. dollars. In 2009 they had a new online game called Champions Online, which is based on the pen -and- paper role-playing game Champions. On February 2, was released in 2010 with Star Trek Online is a MMORPG in the Star Trek universe. The development of the MMORPG Neverwinter was announced on the basis of the D & D license on August 23, 2010.

On August 9, 2011 Atari announced that Cryptic Studios was sold for 35 million euros to the Chinese publisher Perfect World.
