Cullen's sign

The Cullen's sign (English: Cullen 's sign ), as well as the Grey-Turner 's sign, a clinical sign of severe acute pancreatitis. This periumbilical occur, ie around the belly button around, bluish- greenish spots on. They are caused by a ödematose soaking the subcutis and local bleeding from small vessels, referred to as ecchymoses, which are triggered by a local irritation by pancreatic enzymes. The character is seen in pancreatitis as prognostically unfavorable.

The character is named after the Canadian gynecologists Thomas Stephen Cullen (1868-1953) named, who observed the occurrence in ruptured ectopic pregnancy.
