Cumberland Valley AVA

Cumberland Valley AVA ( recognized since 23 July 1985) is a wine region in the U.S. states of Pennsylvania and Maryland. The area covers the administrative regions of Washington County in northwestern Maryland and Franklin County and Cumberland County in south-central Pennsylvania.

Despite a vast territory that went down in the definition of the appellation, the actual area under vines is modest 40 acres. The vineyards are located either on slopes on the Potomac River or the South Mountain, a spur of the Blue Ridge Mouintains. The soils contain mostly alkaline solution | alkaline limestone.
