Cunter ( German and until 1943 Conters in the above stone) is a municipality in the district of Albula Surses in the district of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Geography

Cunter is a municipality in the region above stone and situated on the right bank of Julia on the road from Tiefencastel to Silvaplana ( the Julier Pass road ). Well as the village still belong to the hamlet Burvagn and Mäiensässen Muntschect and Promastgel to the site. Of the total area of 711 ha community 355 acres of woods and forests are covered. At least 230 ha can be used for agriculture - but the majority of them are mountain farms. Another 108 acres are unproductive area (mostly mountains) and 18 ha settlement area. Cunter adjacent to Riom- Parsonz, Salouf, Savognin and Tiefencastel.

Languages

The original language is Surmeirisch, a regional dialect of Romansh. The community remained almost monolingual Roman to 1970. During 1880, 86.4 % stated that language as their mother tongue, the value in 1910 was even increased to 95.39 %. In 1941 he was still 86.4 % in 1970 and 87.93 %. Since then, there will be a strengthening language change to the Germans, which can be attributed to immigration. This proves the table below:

Romansh is so far the only authorities language.

From the end of 2005 215 inhabitants are 184 ( = 85.58 %), Swiss citizen.
