Curtis Fowlkes

Curtis Fowlkes ( born March 19, 1951 in New York City ) is an American jazz musician (trombone, vocals, composition). He is co-founder of the Jazz Passengers.

Life and work

Fowlkes in 1977 for a quote by Ernie Wilkins professional musicians. He met with appearances by the Big Apple Circus Band for the first time the saxophonist Roy Nathanson, with whom he has worked regularly since then. Both belonged 1984-1989 to John Lurie's band The Lounge Lizards. In 1987 she founded the Jazz Passengers with other musicians of the downtown scene. In addition, Fowlkes worked with Thomas Chapin, Art Blakey, Gunter Hampel, Henry Threadgill, Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot and Charlie Hunter. Furthermore, he was several times with Charlie Haden and the Liberation Music Orchestra as well as with Bill Frisell on tour. He also was a member of the revived Louie Bellson Duke Ellington Orchestra. In 2001 he went with his group Catfish Corner on tour and in the recording studio ( CD " Reflect "). He has also played with John Zorn, with Andy Summers and Sheryl Crow. In 2013 he accompanied Glen Hansard in Germany.
