Cusy

Cusy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Cusy is located at 550 m above sea level. M., around 17 km south-southwest of the town of Annecy (air line). This former farm extends on a plateau at the northern foot of the Montagne de Bange, in Albanais, at the outlet of Chéran from the cluse de Bange, a gorge, where the river breaks through the western edge of the massif of the chain bauges.

The area of ​​16.93 km ² municipal area includes a section of the Alpine foothills in the south Albanais. The northeastern border runs along the Chéran. This breaks the anticline of Semnoz and Montagne de Bange ( edge chain of the Wallows ) in a characteristic Klus and then exits out into the molasse of the foothills of the Alps, in which he is also incised.

The municipal area of ​​Cusy falls into two very different natural spatial units. History

Cusy is first mentioned in documents dating from 1022; later appeared the Latinized name Cusiacum. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman family names Cus ( s ) ius and means something like estate of Cus ( s ) ius. In the Middle Ages Cusy was the center of a Kastlanei and was awarded by the Counts of Geneva certain liberties in the 13th century. In 1860 Cusy was separated from the Canton Albens in the department of Savoie and the newly created Canton Alby- sur- Chéran in the Haute- Savoie incorporated.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint -Christophe was built in 1887 in Neo-Romanesque style. Get the ruins of the Château de Cusy ( 17th century ) and the Château de Fesigny ( 12th century). At the entrance to the cluse de Bange is the suspension bridge Pont Abîme, which spans the canyon of Chéran in 96 m height.

Population

With 1783 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Cusy one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Cusy counted 1478 inhabitants). Since the mid- 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area again.
