The Cuxhaven station is a terminal station in located at the mouth of the Elbe Cuxhaven Lower Saxony seaport. The station is the terminus of coming from Hamburg Lower Elbe Railway and the railway line Bremerhaven - Cuxhaven and the beginning of the three -kilometer-long railway siding for America Station. The station is located southeast of the city, right on the harbor.

History

The first station in Cuxhaven was opened in 1881 with the commencement of operations on the Lower Elbe Railway. 1896 was the second route to Geestemünde, since 1947 a district of Bremerhaven, in operation. For the increase in rail operations, a larger station was needed. The new head station was opened in 1898. The first station building remained as a service building but until today (2013 ) is obtained. Parallel to the passenger transport facilities can be found towards the harbor freight transport systems, initially Ladestraße with goods shed, even closer to the harbor the big fish forwarding station.

Station building

The station building is located across the railroad tracks on the concourse. The station building itself is a DB travel center, a newsagent and a bakery with an attached cafe. There are also on the concourse several ticket machines. From the train station initiative Cuxhaven, there is the proposal more retail space to provide event and office spaces in the existing station building. As operator for the existing station building the station Cuxhaven initiative proposes a cooperative, which could consist of Cuxhavenern and guests of the town Cuxhaven.

The station originally had four tracks to two covered central platforms. The southernmost track 4 was abandoned after 1984, the platform roofing removed.

Station area

In the forecourt of the station leave from numerous urban and regional bus lines. Near the station is the city of Cuxhaven. From the train station initiative Cuxhaven, there are numerous proposals to redesign the station area.

Rebuilding

As part of a modernization in 2013 were the platforms of weather protection facilities and benches and lighting equipment, a reactive control system, information display cases, watches, and dynamic signature indicator.
