Cvikov

Cvikov ( German Zwickau in Bohemia) is a city of Okres Ceska Lipa in the Liberec Region in the north of the Czech Republic.

Geography

The village lies on the southern edge of the nature reserve Lusatian Mountains about 10 km from the German border and southwest of Zittau. The nearby towns are Nový Bor ( Haida ) to the west and Jablonné v Podještědí ( German fork) to the east. The city on Boberský Potok ( Bober Bach) is dominated by the north-west mountain Klíč ( Kleis, 760 m).

History

How many towns in the area was Zwickau on a trade route, the Old Leipaer road. This led from central Bohemia to Zittau. 1346 to find the first written references to the place in which a stone bridge and later in 1352 by a parish church is mentioned. The town of Zwickau was in 1391.

Initially, the site belonged to the rule Milštejn ( millstone ), but was later added to the rule of imperial city Zákupy.

In the Thirty Years' War came in 1632 in the town of serious damage. The Town Hall and the brewery burned out completely. Zwickau in 1680 was hit by a severe plague. In the episode broke due to blackmail Fronpflichten by the rule owner of Zákupy, Julius Franz of Saxe- Lauenburg, heavy peasant uprisings. Approx. 1200 insurgents from 20 villages were fighting for their position on the Grünberg ( Zeleny vrch ) near the town against the powerful forces of General Piccolomini. After two days and encirclement of the mountain by the enemy forces, the farmers gave up.

1745 confirmed the Empress Maria Theresa, the city, brewing and marketing rights of Zwickau. 1775 came as a result of famine and forced labor unbearable further serious peasant uprisings. This time the rebellion ended without success.

1835 was the first hospital in the city. 1850 Zwickau seat of the District Court; There were police, Guardia di Finanza, tax and land registry. Zwickau in 1886 received a railroad connection; the route Zwickau- Röhrsdorf ( Svor ) was opened. Opened in 1905, the local railway Röhrsdorf fork. Around 1900, Zwickau developed into an industrial city. Especially production of textiles, paints and glass industry moved into the area.
